I was trying to take a nap one afternoon while at a friend's cabin on the Sunshine Coast. I couldn't sleep so instead, I gazed at the curtains. One of the first ‘epiphanies’ I remember having when I was young, was that the perception of beauty is the detail in contrasts. Dark and light, sound and silence, having and not having. I remember the exact moment I thought that; fourteen years old, walking at night towards home, passing by a house with a party going on, the music reaching me. Those moments luckily still happen, like the afternoon sun caught in the curtains.
